Philosophy/Mission Statement Minimize

From PK4 to 8th grade, Firewheel Christian Academy provides the tools for success in the classroom and in life. A well-rounded Christian experience is provided with solid academics and enriching arts. FCA offers a safe environment with first-rate teachers who are state qualified and committed to Jesus Christ in their personal and professional lives. Students thrive on personalized attention in classrooms just the right size for learning.

This website offers a glimpse into the heart of our program. FCA’s philosophy of education centers around two very important aspects – Jesus Christ and our students. We believe that if you put Christ first in every endeavor from academics to the arts and physical athletics, students will excel. Our mission at FCA is to educate our students for lifelong success and to enrich their lives with Christian purpose. We take that mandate very seriously and are striving to maintain rigorous educational standards while preserving Christian integrity in the learning process.

Call our admissions office and make an appointment to visit the school and see the difference Firewheel Christian is making in the lives of its students.

Curriculum Minimize

At FCA we are continually assessing our curriculum to produce students who are able to compete academically and are prepared for high school. Primarily, we use the ABeka Curriculum which is an accelerated Christian based and phonics-driven program. In the upper grades, we incorporate Bob Jones and ACSI for math and science.

Honorable Character Minimize

The Honorable Character system develops positive character in children reinforcing their strong points and gently correcting their weak points. This allows parents and educators to readily partner together in recognizing every student’s positive character strengths and God-given talents. The system focuses on the fourteen character traits supported by bible verses and displayed on a poster in each classroom. Throughout each class, all teachers emphasize these positive behaviors as they teach and carry out normal classroom procedures. Teachers verbally recognize students for exhibiting Godly character and record these occurrences on the students conduct card that go home daily with each student to inform parents of the character displayed during that day by their child.

Student-led Conferences Minimize

An important component of the FCA philosophy is the development of students who are actively engaged in building on their previous knowledge and experiences and applying new understandings to become reflective, self-directed learners. In addition, students are encouraged to be risk-takers who set and achieve worthwhile goals for themselves and effectively communicate their ideas to others. One way in which we hope to help students accomplish this is through student-led conferencing.

Student-led conferences are conferences in which the student leads a conference with their parents to show what they have learned and the growth they have made throughout the school year. The benefits of holding student-led conferences include:

  • Teaching students to reflect more deeply on their progress and to set goals for continued personal, social and academic growth
  • Giving students increased ownership of their academic progress
  • Providing a forum for students to share the contents of their portfolios with their parents
  • Developing students’ communication skills
  • Honoring the role of all subject areas (including Art, Music, PE and Spanish) as contributing to the development of well-rounded students and people
We look forward to parent involvement as we continue to implement student-led conferences at FCA. Student-led conferences are one way that students are actively involved in helping to guide their own learning experiences.
